An Elegant Feast
This time of year is one filled with celebrations joining family and friends, much of which revolves around meals. However, there is more to preparing an elegant feast than the food that's served, and in order to make your gatherings most memorable, your challenge is to create a backdrop that is both festive and inviting.
Appearances are everything, so choose your decorations with care. For a storybook celebration, you might want to visit A Victorian Christmas. This site pulls together a collection of holiday articles from the 19th Century and features an abundance of information that will help you create a Victorian style Christmas. Whether you're interested in decorating ideas or need special tips for creating cards and gifts, this site will help you organize an affair which captures the essence of that era.
As part of the holiday tradition, most of us adorn our doors with a wreath. Creating a fresh pine wreath garnished with oranges and cinnamon is a fairly simple matter, and the results are visually appealing. (As well as being a treat for your olfactory senses!) The Better Homes and Gardens Holiday Crafts Page provides instructions for this plus other seasonal decorations.
In addition, the Handcrafts Forum on CompuServe is a great place to exchange holiday crafts ideas. Whether you're making wreathes, ornaments or greeting cards, the members and staff here will give you the guidance you need.
You'll also find that CompuServe has assembled a collection of holiday decorating tips that are sure to please. Darlah Potechin of the Home Forum suggests using decorative swags to spruce up your windows and other areas of your home, plus she recommends some seasonal scents that will bring to mind memories of holidays past.
