Dining Out, Internet Style
In the not so distant past, choosing a restaurant was simply a matter of thumbing through your local Yellow Pages. Savvy diners relied on word of mouth recommendations and the local news media for reviews. With the digital revolution in full swing, all this information is now available online. In fact, you even can make reservations without picking up the phone! Let's take a look.
Before we worry about reservations, we should think about where we want to eat. Long before the advent of the Web, Tim and Nina Zagat were busy building one of the largest and most respected restaurant guides, the Zagat Survey. The entire guide is built on the reviews and suggestions of consumers, so customer satisfaction plays a large role in the ratings.
On their site, you'll find a searchable database making it easy to locate a restaurant in your area. Have a favorite place you'd like to review? Become a member (it's free), and you can submit comments for whichever restaurants you'd like. Plus, membership entitles you to a 25 percent discount on the book and other items sold on the site.
Another good resource for restaurant reviews is Cuisine Net. While not as well known as Zagat, this site is fairly comprehensive and includes a searchable database for restaurants all over the United States. Customer feedback helps guide you into making the best choice.
